11.11.11 (also known as Veterans Day)
The majority of the day has passed and, for once, I have yet to update my Facebook status. Today being Veterans Day and all, I want to write a message of gratitude for all those who willingly put their lives on the line in the name of freedom — OUR FREEDOM. But I am at a loss for words.
The day, I believe, is to honor those who have gone to war for this country. However my gratitude also goes out to those who have willingly volunteered to go to war — whether called upon to go or not. Maybe I am missing the point. I don’t know.
I scan the FB home feed and am sad to see that 11.11.11 has taken precedence over Veterans Day in everyone’s thoughts. My dear friends, I think, this is wrong. But who am I to judge right and wrong when I have not posted a thing all day? Admittedly, the whole numbers thing is kind of cool. How can I forget how I got all nostalgic about qualifying for the Boston Marathon on 10/10/10?
It’s time let go of judgement and post a status of my own.
