He seems to be paying attention to the football game. But when you see him carrying the ball like this, you begin to wonder.

floored
Ninety minutes before kickoff, I decide to lift up a corner of the carpet in my room. It wasn’t the first time I’d peaked at the honey-stained floorboards underneath. The vacuum pulls it at weekly, and then some. But I’ve never pulled it back this far. I was floored at what I lay underneath.
At this point, there was no turning back. Dingy carpet or beautiful hardwood floor? No brainer. Right? I could only hope that the rest of the floor was in as good of shape as the section I’d uncovered.
Immediately, I got on my phone and retrieved a few how-to’s from my brother. Then, got ready for YaYa’s game. As soon as the game was over, we headed to the local hardware store for a few supplies. Then I got busy.
Stopping only for bio-breaks and bites of food, I worked right up ’till midnight. I slept in BoBo’s room and got up before sunrise. This was when I realized my clothes were barricaded by the pieces of my bed. Where my bed normally goes sat the furniture which normally lines the far wall. With the extra time I had at my disposal, I resumed my efforts charged to free my clothes on time for the workday.
i am runner
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 6 months since I’ve done any sort of real running. 6 MONTHS! For someone who has essentially been running all of her life, that’s a mighty long time.
I’m thankful that I had my century training to distract me from the self-pity that has accompanied all other forced hiatuses from running that I’ve had. I might have been a wreck otherwise. Instead, I was pretty absorbed in learning the sport of cycling. I also think it’s pretty cool that this sport I previously called my “bad sport” has become one that I truly have learned to love. My bike has been hung up since the ride but this is not due to a lack of desire to climb aboard; it is due to time constraints.
I have a little over 3 weeks left to train for the Big Sur half-marathon and very little in the way of miles run on the books. And although I have many years of experience, my return to the sport has not been easy.

hard work pays off
YaYa is only in 7th grade and already he has been putting in the long hours. His grades have been steadily coming up, which is good. His grades were suffering from an inability to manage football and school but he seems to be finding his way. YaYa has his sights set on a couple of the catholic high schools in the area and apparently this school year is the year that they look at when reviewing entrance applications.
This is the reason why I got YaYa a tutor this summer — because it matters and I don’t get half the stuff he’s learning. More precisely, I may know the math or other subject, but due to everything having different terms to describe it, I often get lost in the instructions.
The other day, YaYa’s tutor had to explain to me what she was talking about: an old concept now taught with new terms. The poor boy is doomed if ever I decide I cannot afford her.
