When my son says “Oh Mom, we need to go shopping” it’s a sign that a long night is ahead. After I was presented with his mock up for his edible cell — involving cake, jello, and other various candies — I basically freaked.
Sadly, it’s true. I completely lost it. The whole way home, my mind entertained thoughts of how much easier the homework load was in our old public school.
When I finally came up for air, I found out that the cell did not need to be completed tonight. I just had to furnish the ingredients. Even better, the expected size of the cake was not as I had feared.
So we bought a ready-made angel food cake, ready-made jello cups, frosting, and some candy. I also picked up a can of whipped cream and a basket of fresh strawberries.
At home, I cut the bottom off of the cake to send to school with the rest of the supplies. To the remainder of the cake, we added the strawberries and whipped cream.
Mmm….Delish.

LOL… I love it when my son gets assignments that he couldn’t possibly do by himself. It’s even better when he waits till the day before it is due to tell me :-)

Well, since I’d been asking for the week prior if he’d finished selecting the items for his project and he said no…I was pretty upset with him. I was really glad that he didn’t have to build it at home. It’s an in-class assignment. Whew!
Still, I did restrict him from TV, computer (other than for homework), and video games for two days. This is something that I’ve never done before.
The jellybeans were one of the few items that I didn’t change. Rather than searching for the specific items (i.e. appleheads, laffy taffy) he had listed, I went to the bulk candy and selected alternate materials for the cell membrane, nucleus, etc. I think he liked my selection.
