When you’ve got 100 mile ahead of you, and you’re a bit unsure if you’ve put in the training needed to pull it off, an invitation to draft is a very beautiful thing.
When you’ve covered 70+ miles, your legs are beyond fatigued, and much of your body has been hurting for hours, looking at the shadow on the road to discover that your little pace line has grown to 20 strong is priceless… and a little frightening too.
The shadows in the picture are unusual. Either very early morning or very late in the afternoon. And you were in a great position.
whizbang, you would’ve been so proud to see juls staying strong and relaxed with the paceline during that last 20 mile stretch through the farmlands. a beautiful thing…
I owe thanks to both of you for mentoring me on this new adventure. It feels odd to not have a long ride planned. I’m going to have to fit a few in during my half-marathon training.
Oh Bill, the photo was taken in the morning while we were still traveling through farmland.
