Every year, my brother-in-law participates in Sacramento Region’s bike commute month. With cycling to work as his routine commuting method, his participation goals for this annual program is to top the list in miles logged. This year, he logged 2,289 miles in the month of May alone!
For perspective, I reviewed my own training log. I logged a total of 124.02 miles last month, 379.76 miles last year, and 2,101.54 miles this lifetime. Yes, my brother-in-law rode more miles on his bike in the month of May than I have in my entire lifetime. Crazy, eh? Did I mention that he lives in the Sacramento area?
Well, there is no competing with those kind of numbers. I can, however, compete with my own set of numbers. If I was to log progressively more and more miles per month between now and October, I’d be well on my way to becoming century-prepared.
With only 1 week into July, I’ve already logged 68.73 miles. It is an exceptionally good week. Extra time off from work with YaYa out with his friends means I’ve been afforded more time in the saddle. I can only hope that my luck continues to allow me the time and space to build my base cycling to a level worthy of registering for my chosen event with confidence that I can and will do it.
