Cowboy Take Me Away

I love this shot.  It gives you the general feel of what it was like walking around in Nevada City waiting for the start of yet another great Tour of California. We got to see the bikes getting set up, the team cars preparing to head out, and LANCE.  Not up close and personal, like I would’ve liked but close enough to get the hairs on my arm to stand at attention.

The weather was sweet.  Nice and HOT — which is how I like it.  The people, for the most part, were friendly and courteous.  The day in all it’s glory, was wondrous and perfect and as close to heaven as I want to be at this point in my life.

up to my ears

It is safe to say that I am up to my ears.  As to what I am up to my ears in, you can be the judge.

I’ve got papers strewn across my bed.  Receipts, bank statements, and files of documents which I once thought were in some sort of order — but now know better.

On a table in the garage, sits mounds of laundry which I tried to wash ahead of time but sadly did not get around to folding.  This makes my efforts pointless — I know.

My bedroom floor is littered with unpacked bags from an exciting weekend.  Yes, this is the reason my blog had no entries since Thursday.  I’ll make it up to you.  I promise.

In the next couple of days, I hope to fill in the gaps by adding posts.  Backdated of course.  It’s no secret, I do that A LOT. I’m certain that I am not the only one. This is why feed subscriptions like Google Reader and Bloglines are so great.  If you are not using one, please feel free to look back through the posts for entries which you may have missed.  I know you wouldn’t want to miss a single word or photo.  *grin*

Lens Envy

It’s not about the size; it’s how you use the lens that matters.

It may have started out as a joke, but truly I did have a bit of lens envy as I watched this guy from a far. He walked across the street and stood just a few feet away from me. I watching him and admired his lens until I was over taken with interest.

In a sense, the size of his lens was my opening line. He didn’t shoo me away; he was happy to provide me with a his measurements (mm, zoom, aperture, etc) and capabilities. I was SO impressed.

After hearing a bit about freezing the shot, photographing weddings, bears, and sporting events, he turned his attention to my equipment. I showed him my Sony digital SLR and admitted that I really didn’t know much about how to make it perform for me. He gave me a bit of advice and then returned his focus to setting up his shot.

Within just a few minutes, the peloton was due to arrive for their final three laps of Stage One in the Amgen Tour of California and there I was changing out my lens. I figured that I’d use one lens for the first two passes and the other for the final two.

Sporting my biggest and badest lens, I began setting up my shot and waited…

Road trip ready

The weekend seemed to take forever to get here.   Aside from it being a rather long and drawn out work week,  the weekend plans have made it all the more difficult to wait.

Yes, I’ve got another fun weekend in store for me.  This time, YaYa is coming along for the ride.

Now that it’s here, I’ve got so much to do before we head out on our road trip.

Perspective

Things change over time.  They age and often become the effect of their environment.  Whether this change is good or bad depends on so much.  Most often, it depends on who is looking.

I’m not talking about gray hair.  Although that would seem to apply too.  I’m talking in a broader sense.

Take this weathered fence for example. The wood is worn, eaten away in spots, and brittle. It appears to be on the verge of crumble.

Yet, when I look at it, I see a beautiful example of strength and pertinacity.

When I get old — say 80 or 90 years old  — I want to be like this piece of wood — strong, ready for more, and beautiful to the eyes of my beholder.
