It was several years ago. The F family all gathered in Massachusetts to watch DD perform in Cyrano de Bergerac. As is with the majority of these extended family gatherings, the trip would not be complete if someone wasn’t the butt of a joke or two. It’s just how it is, generally.
On this particular occasion, as I remember it, Tom’s brother Joe and a handful of family members to a day trip into New York. They came back in good spirits and had a special present for Tom.
I’m over at Cindy‘s house getting intoxicated by the smell of fragrant and exotic foods cooking. As I attempt to write my blog for the day, music from YaYa’s miniclip game distracts me from any logical thoughts. The whole disjointed feeling is reinforced with the glass of wine that I’ve been served by my hosts. It’s simply delish.
Earlier today, while running along, I taxed my brain with the calculations of what route to run so that Cindy’s 20 mile run would be covered and where I would break off at a logical spot for an 18 mile run with a progression in pace in the final six miles. Somehow, I had managed to figure out Cindy’s route just fine. I figured my separation point as well. The task that I failed to perform was to check to see if my run was the correct 18 miles.
It wasn’t until I’d been sitting for an extended period of time, waiting for Cindy to finish, that I realized that I’d shorted my run by 2 miles. Oops. *sheepish grin* I never said that math was my strong point.
At least I had a good run and finished strong. I also walked over 2 miles to get some munchies in town following the run.
I had permission to leave work early. As I walked to my car, I verbally stated the plans to myself. The locations, distance, and pace was all worked out. I began driving, happy to have a little more sunlight to get it done. There was a funny sound, I couldn’t figure where it was coming from. I checked the windows to see if they were rattling. Nothing seemed any different.
At the light, a man got out of his car to get my attention. My rear tire was completely flat. Great, I though, just what I need to ruin my plans. But it was also great that I didn’t get on the freeway that way. What a disaster it could have been!
At home, BoBo went to the football game and YaYa had plans for the family skate night. I’d have rather sat at home with a glass of wine. But I slipped on some roller skates and managed to keep my body in one piece.
My Sunday is insanely busy so the long run is moved to Saturday and I’ll try to get my repeats done on Sunday instead.
I’ve already told the story of how Tom and I married in a hot air balloon. It was a great way to kick off our journey together.

Here are five random facts about me:
1. I wanted to be a cheerleader but decided not to tryout when I discovered that I wouldn’t be able to cheer and participate on the Track and Cross-country Teams.
2. I’m a Capricorn. My birthday is 2 days after Christmas. I was on track for a holiday-related name [ie. Christina, Holly, or Noel] until my Mom saw the Sound of Music. Thank you Julie Andrews for portraying an angelic character thus influencing my parent’s naming choices. Incidentally, I wasn’t exactly an angel growing up.
3. I started taking dance classes (including modern, ballet, and jazz) as an adult. Ballet was my favorite. I got obsessed, taking a couple classes a day at the community college. Since I was working the night shift at the time, I’d sleep in my car between classes. I quit in the first trimester of my pregnancy with BoBo as the bathroom was too far away from the dance studio. I was always throwing up.
4. I am a Type-A (obsessive) tracker where running is involved. I track my miles on my running shoes diligently. I will keep running past a destination to get a round number to track (ie. 5.95 miles would not be good enough if 6 miles was on the schedule for the day.)
5. I love dark chocolate, black jelly beans, and red wine. I hate apple and grape flavored candies and gums – even the smell nauseates me.
