YaYa must have thought that he was trying to win a stage of the Tour de France. He was focused as he stood up off his bicycle seat and pedaled with all of his might. Meanwhile, I felt the fatigue set in as I chased behind him. I yelled for him to slow down, but by then he was too far ahead to hear me.

Yeah Me
My clothes are still sweaty, and my Forerunner still has my average pace showing on the screen, as I write this post. It was a busy day and I only now have finished my run.
Today actually started shaping itself last night when I picked YaYa up from skate camp. He complained of his right ear hurting. Not again, I thought. After dinner, I dug out my otoscope and had a look. The ear canal was bright red and raw looking. His scar tissue, from multiples of ear infections in the past, was a fluffy white. Not a good sign for the coming day.
Fitness and Motivation
My head said to go, but the rest of my body wasn’t getting the message. This has been the case for the past couple of days. Yesterday, I let the lunch break pass by and continued working at my desk for the 3rd work day in a row. I kept on and told myself that since the kids weren’t going to be home after work that I would go running then. Well, I didn’t. Instead, I folded laundry, feed my face and the blog. Before long, it was getting dark.
So today I forced the issue. My body was picking up my gym bag and heading to the fitness center, while my head was screaming DON”T do it. I figured the only way that I was to do any real speed work would be to hit the treadmill. I knew that it would be hard. I knew that I had lost fitness in these past few weeks of un-motivated and purpose-less running. I had no idea that it had gotten to this point.
Cycling Past Uncertainty – Independence Day
What better way to celebrate the 4th of July (Independence Day) than for Tom and I to go cycling together. This also happened to be our last day of Independence from having kids. They have been vacationing without us in Massachusetts and in New York. Now don’t misunderstand me, we LOVE our kids *dearly*, but it was certainly different not having them around for the past 4 days. No football practices, shuttling to friend’s houses, swimming lessons, breaking up the little fights, or – worse yet – dealing with the “I’m bored”, “There is *nothing* good to eat” comments.
Now since cycling is my husband’s sport of choice, I was hesitant to join him. I have not been on my road bike since last year, and I didn’t want to hold him back too much. Last time we rode together I was sore from running and he was annoyed with my lack of speed. I didn’t want to repeat that again, and I WASN’T sore. I had no excuse.
Running with the Lucky Dog – a thing of the past
On Hal’s running forum, there was a post asking about running with dogs. The forum is difficult to post a photo to because of the limits regarding photo size so I posted here to get the picture in a post-friendly size. Here is the response (with a few edits/improvements) that I wrote to the forum, and thought I would share it with you all in case you run with dogs.
