After a year’s worth of dedicated efforts towards yoga teacher training, The Man is finally certified. I’ve been amazed by the level of knowledge that he and his peers have had to grasp. The 200 hours of instruction was only the 1st of many stepping stones or hurdles. He also put in hours of assisting in the studio, numerous other workshops, and a phenomenal amount of time learning the poses, theory, anatomy, and sanskrit. He put 110% into it and I am so proud of him.
Today, it all came together as he taught his 1st bonafide class: Vinyasa Level II/III. He even incorporated Valentine’s Day into the mix by adding a LOVE theme — which meant today’s class had a plentiful helping of heart-opening poses and encouragement to share compassion to ourselves and to others. I’m know it was no easy task to put together the poses, the right words, and the perfect music to tie it all together. He was up past midnight working on it. Of course, it was awesome!
Later, when he thanked me for being there for him, I thought about what an honor it was to be included in this special moment of his. Honestly, I hope to be able to be a part of as many of his momentous occasions as I possibly can.
When I qualified to run the Boston Marathon, after 9 years of effort, The Man was at my side. And when I took on cycling, and set out to complete my 1st century ride, he was there too. Having someone encouraging you to chase your dreams is pretty darn cool. Even cooler is watching someone make their dream a reality — as I did today.
After class ended, while The Man was still high on his success, I suggested that we commemorate the moment by spelling Y-O-G-A on the fitness center wall.

Congrats!! I know the one yoga studio near me always makes me feel so welcome and energized and that is in no small part due to the instructors taking care and live into their preparations, as it sounds like he has! What a great start!!
