Always, it seems, we are racing the clock be it trying to get to our destination on time or simply trying to accomplish all that we need to before the day is done. More and more, it seems, time is passing all too quickly — certainly compared to the laidback pace of hiking in the mountains.
Since then, I race from here to there and struggle to get all the things done on my list of to-do’s. I’ve learned to let-it-go. In doing this, I have missed a workout or two and have tried to remind myself that the “critical” workouts *are* being done.
With the Portland Marathon just a month away, I am at the peak of training. I completed a 20 mile long run last week and am set to step back this week before attacking a 20-22 mile long run. I am reviewing training plan I set up for the remaining 4 weeks and hoping it will be enough to finally get my long sought after BQ. And of course, I am questioning what footwear I should pull onto my feet on race day. My heart says to go with my Vibrams but I wonder if it would be foolish to train to 22 miles and expect to pull out an additional 4 miles on race day.
There is so much to consider, so much to do, and much training to make happen. For starters: 1 mile repeats.

YaYa’s entry into middle school education comes equipped with a busy schedule of classes and a school locker. Working the combination lock was the topic of tonight’s dinner conversation. YaYa complained about how confusing it was to go around the dial with a varied number of turns. BoBo, noting “It’s as easy as three-two-one,” explained how you go around three times for the 1st number, two times for the 2nd, and three times for the last. I sure wish someone had clued me into this when I was first learning. It would have saved me from giving out my combination to anyone and everyone who was willing to help me open mine.
