Have you ever had trouble falling to sleep? For me, it has been a common occurrence for most of my life. I’ve tried meditating, taking hot baths, drinking warm milk or hot tea, and counting sheep. None of it seems to work. Even my sleeping pills have a questionable efficacy. What have you tried?

superset me
My arms have that nice quivery feeling right now. You know the feeling. It’s the one you get when you’ve just completed a sweet strength workout.
I now have a new strength routine to (hopefully) rejuvenate my enthusiasm for strength and core. I only hope that I can remember all of the combos in each of the supersets that my friend showed me.
I’d really like the idea of getting a good strength and cross training routine going before launching into marathon training once again. Ideally, I’d like to drop a few pounds too.
a trip down memory lane
Mom asked me to show her how to sort photos on her Mac. Within minutes, I was knee deep in old photos from my old life. As the good memories came rushing back, memories of sadness and loss were also reawakened. I click – clicked through the photos, sent a few to my online album, and reflected on the past few years.
After a quick trip down memory lane, I let the pain sit and returned to the present to embrace all that is good. Thankfully, there is plenty of good these days.
What’s that ringing?
It was one of those mornings when things just didn’t seem to want to fall into place. I was late dropping YaYa at school after coming downstairs to find that he was wearing pants that were too small to zip up. He promptly ran upstairs and came down wearing a different pair which had holes worn in both knees. To make matters worse, for some unknown reason, he folded up the poster board assignment that he’d spent the past few days working on and shoved it into his backpack. *sigh*
After dropping him off, I made a b-line to Peets Coffee for my soy latte. Caffeine fixes all. Right? Well, perhaps not. It seemed that EVERYONE was running late. The highway was crawling.
I sought reprieve from the highway stress in the way of music. Good music always makes the traffic seem less of problem which is why I’ve hardly been listening to anything other than my XM radio since I got my new car. The heavy traffic made me wonder if there was an accident ahead. So, I tuned into the local radio station — just in time for a commercial break.
Cycling with Mom
A few days before Mother’s Day I got a great idea on how to spoil her. This amounted to accompanying her on a bicycle tour in the nearby foothills. If she was in real estate, this would be her preferred way to show off these neighborhoods and get a bit of hill climbing done in the process. She obviously prefers to weave in and out of the neighborhoods to taking the last of the country roads off into the sunset.
Nonetheless, riding with Mom and her hubs was really a nice change in pace. While she flew down the hills at lightening speed, I took the descents at a timidly cautious speed. Note: The roads were WET! I made up for lost ground on the hills though. Challenging Mom’s hubs to a duel, we took on the hills and then circled back to bring Mom in.
After checking out the hillside homes, we made our way to the local Starbucks before the final few miles. We were just rolling out again when we discovered Mom’s flat tire. Lucky for Mom, her hubs was happy to come to her rescue. And I, being the paparazzi that I am, caught the whole thing on camera. Enjoy!
