Last night, I sat in the very spot where this photo was taken — with the person who took the picture today. If you look closely, you can see my future off in the distance.

Taper, anyone?
Taper Madness, this time around, has been anything but maddening. Instead of being irritable and antsy, I am cheerful and excited. It’s a good place to be.
I’ve got a lot on my plate this coming week. My biggest worry is how I’ll manage to get enough sleep. Okay, maybe that AND my presentation for my business meeting. Anyway…
On this glorious day, I laced up my shoes for one final (sort of) long run before race day. It was nice mix of beauty and hills. It was exactly what I needed.
Balance & Strength
In these days of go-go-go, it’s easy to get caught in the current that pulls you out into the sea of hustle and bustle. It separates you from the stuff that really matters.
It’s just so hard to strike a balance and find the strength to hold steady.
With a business trip followed almost immediately by a weekend in Big Sur, making sure YaYa knows my love and feels important. Funny though how intentions to put him first translate to something completely different than planned.
Instead of rushing off to the pool on Saturday, I put his want to play with the neighbors ahead of our previously made plans.
No pool time meant no lap swimming. I managed to dig out some free weights, resistance band, balance ball, and my weighted hula hoop for a different sort of practice in finding balance and strength.
Later, I slipped out for some fun of my own. I did say that it’s about finding balance. Right? It’s also about having the strength to make time for the other stuff too.
Everythings Coming Up Roses
It seems like I’ve been waiting forever for my roses to bloom this year. Previously, the lovely and sweet smelling flowers have timed their arrival with the 1st day of Spring. Given the significance of the day, believe me when I say that I really needed it.
But this year, I guess they figured they could test my patience a bit.
*sniff* Mmmm…. It was SOOOO worth the wait.
Yasso Lasso
Big Sur is just around the corner and an essential workout sat on my training schedule for today: Yasso 800’s. There’s just something about the final set of Yasso’s that I cannot pass up — even if I’ve not done much track work for the season. It’s like the 20 mile long run. It must be done.
And so, at lunch time, I attempted to quickly satisfy my hunger (but not fill up) with a handful of dark chocolate covered espresso beans with hopes of being able to lasso a set of ten Yasso 800’s.
I wasn’t the only one at the community college track though. At the far end of the track, a PE class swarmed all but the outer-most lane. Hoping that I wouldn’t be asked to show my student ID, I forced down my frustration and made my way through the crowd of 20 somethings.
The teacher was calling out the instructions for a timed 1-mile run. They were off running, walking, and everything in between just as I finished off my 1st 800. I watched them go by during the walking portion of my recovery lap, then passed them as I jogged the lap’s remainder.
By the time I kicked off my 2nd 800, the majority of the class was walking. They looked on as I passed, making comments about my speed or the number of laps I’d run. But they kept walking. I guess it takes a whole lot more to inspire the young into action. I offered words of encouragement as I passed those who were running. I’m pretty sure I heard a few groans of gratitude.
