During the season of lent, our parish runs a weekly soup night. It’s a great event that brings the community together. For a donation, our bowls are filled with soup and we get the satisfaction of knowing that our donations will help others to not go hungry either.
With bowls in hand, side dishes and drinks to share me and 4 other families gather and celebrate friendship and family.
This morning, I saw my future boyfriend again. He was eyeing me from behind his pew. I stared back but he didn’t look away. His caramel-colored eyes had the affect of melting me and he knew it. So, I fought fire with fire; I flashed him a smile like only I can do. And that did the trick.

It’s the Tuesday before lent officially begins. Often referred to as Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, or Shrove Tuesday, this day is one of fattening up on rich foods in preparation for fasting and prayer — for some that is. For others, it is a day of confession. And, for many, it is just another day.
In preparation for my planned break from Facebook (FB) and Twitter, I’ve removed the apps from myPhone. Additionally, I’ve temporarily deactivated my FB account. Call me paranoid, but I don’t want to return from my leave to find my walls slathered with graffiti I would normally delete immediately. Besides, one never knows when FB will changed their rules on privacy settings — AGAIN. During the coming weeks, I want to be able to walk away and not look back until I am ready to do so.
I realize that I am not making any real sacrifice here. It’s not like I am giving up blogging or running (not that I’m doing much of that). It’s more of a gift (of time and reflection) than a sacrifice.
Although I am not fasting in any way, I am happy to take part in the indulgence of rich foods, friendship, and fun on this Tuesday night. As for confession, I guess I’m not that good of a Catholic girl. The only confession I’ve made is to my dear friend, Wendy. I’m pretty sure that God already knows what I’ve done anyhow.
As for YaYa, he is considering a fast from computer games, television, or sweets. Now, THAT is real sacrifice. Still, if he gives it up, I guess I do too.
