My boy is growing up — too fast if you ask me. Recently, I’ve noticed him eyeing the young ladies.
Tonight in fact, smiling widely, he commented on how pretty the hostess who seated us was then, minutes later, ordered off the kiddie menu.
Yet put this boy-becoming-man in a candy store and the little boy comes right back. As a matter of fact, put me in a candy store and the kid in me comes out too.
I remember how Tom used to respond when he saw BoBo beginning to notice the girls. Sometimes, a little wave of jealousy would hit me when he would join the commentary on the pretty gals. Funny but my view has changed. It has nothing to do with how pretty the gal is and everything to do with a boy growing up. And as much as I’d like to keep my baby little, watching him mature is pretty cool too.

Heh, heh. Yeah, seeing that here as well. I’m hoping mine doesn’t do the dumb stuff I did. But he’s a guy. He will. :)

I remember the road trip. Enroute to Montana after visits to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce, taking the back roads through Utah. Small towns. Rural life.
We stopped for gas at a convenience store. And that was the first time it happened. I noticed two boys checking out my daughter. No, no, no, no! She’s just a kid. She’s not old enough for this. (By which I mean I’m not ready for this!)
It’s a memory that stays with me. I can see all the details so clearly. She was absolutely oblivious to it. (And I was not about to say anything about it to her.) But of course she was growing up. And she would become a beautiful young woman (naturally!).
Now, even though I still may occasionally grieve over what is past and gone, I cherish those memories I hold. They live inside me. I can look at the old photo of my daughter sitting in the tent, listening to New Kids on the Block, and remember and relive that whole experience we had together as a family.
Cherish it all.
[Geez, Kurt, don’t you have your own blog?!]

The 1st time was during the CMA Awards — when Carrie Underwood did her Cowboy Casanova routine. Oh, if only I had a camera to preserve the look on his face. It was priceless.
