The sun in shining in my eyes right now as it makes its way down for the night. The air cools down quickly. It blows YaYa’s papers from the table as he works on his homework. Every now and again, a few bites actually find their way into his mouth.
I sit back and take it all in. I’m just people watching and busily trying to convince myself that it’s still the weekend or, better yet, I’m on vacation. I know it’s the farthest from the truth but right here, right now I am happy to be just where I am.
We sit in a courtyard staring at the tree wrapped in festive lights. The long sweeping branches drape down as if to protect us all from the elements. Like a mother protecting her children, her protective quality makes us all want to sit in her cover doing nothing but relax.
As the older folks line up in droves at the theaters, a couple meets up for coffee and a movie. Not far from us, the smokers’ society gathers for their nightly meeting out on the patio.
In spite of the jackhammer pulverizing the cement, it is peaceful in the most soothing way. And… at this moment, with pizza and pen in hand, my life is perfect.
