Tell me, why don’t we talk to strangers? It’s not like it is always a bad thing. Besides…we blog! We talk to strangers ALL the time. Right?
Anyway, take my recent experience of stranger-talk, for example:
While hanging out in my start corral at the Nike Women’s Marathon, I met a couple of really nice girls. I mean to say that they were just really nice, and we just clicked right off the bat. We were talking about the local races we’d done, our training, shoes, and all sorts of running-related things. It was an awesome way to pass the time and ease the pre-race jitters.
And because I really wanted to know how their races turned out, I gave them my email address right before the race began.
Yes, I did. To complete strangers – but nice ones.
As it turned out, they did very well. Heidi emailed me to see how I did. We exchanged a few messages, and soon I had two new friends. We even connected up on Facebook.
Now, it just so happens that Heidi works in communications at Nike. So, after I discovered that I had the HALF marathon finisher shirt instead of the one for the FULL marathon. I emailed her.
She hooked me up.
