On Saturday afternoon, I was greeted by one of our neighbors. The topic of discussion was my barking dog. *sigh* It seems that Lucky was complaining that his mistress was spending her time elsewhere. He barked, apparently, until 1 am last night and during the most of weekend while I was away for the marathon. I apologized whole heartedly and thanked him for making me aware. Then, I gave him my cell phone number in case it were to occur again. After that, I let the dogs stay in the house and prayed that my couch pillows would not be eaten by dear Ronin while we were away.
I’d had not forgotten about it. In fact, I left the dogs in the house again today while we were away at the game. When we returned, I instructed YaYa to get to work on his homework. One of the few items of homework that he had was to practice Ode to Joy, and Jingle Bells with his recorder. As he sat in the backyard playing, I wondered if the neighbors would be returning for discussion. He is getting better, but it is clear that he needs to invest much more time for practice than he has.
Well, this evening, my cell phone rang. I could see that it was a different neighbor calling me. I assumed that he would also be calling to inform me of Lucky’s serenade. He wasn’t. Instead, he brought up YaYa’s recorder practice. *pause* “I just wondered if YaYa would like to see the special on Ode to Joy that is on channel 10 right now.” *sigh relief* I thanked him and hung up the phone happy that the neighbor could tell the piece which YaYa was attempted.

Your neighborhood must be delightfully quiet.
My neighbors must be deaf or never at home… My son practices with his band, complete with drums, electric guitars, etc… I have yet to receive a call, but they’re usually done by 9 pm or switch to acoustic guitars… and my dog barks every night Sea World has fireworks… and did I mention the train?
Have a great week!

The dog I can understand (maybe) but Ode to Joy on a recorder? Hopefully he was calling to tell you how much improvement he’s noticed.

That’s cute. Sounds like your neighbor really meant it, to me.

oh he totally meant it. My neighbors are great. The other neighbor was offering to feed the dogs because they wondered if they were hungry. I explained Lucky’s dependence on my company, and his habit to bark when he hears me come home (before I even am in the driveway). Lucky must have had it with my absent or knew I was on a date.

Yea, I hope the neighbors didn’t call to complain… I keep my dogs inside after 10PM out of respect for them, but the neighbor that leaves her dog outside at 6 AM to bark is about to get a shout out.

Generally I am home by 8 pm or earlier, and leave around 7:30 am…BUT due to my date, I didn’t come home until 1 am. :) So, I guess Lucky got impatient. The prior weekend, I was in SF for the marathon and the other neighbors were bringing the dogs in at night. I guess they left them out a bit longer than they were used to.
