They say that things that have great value are worth the struggles, and hard work that it takes to gain them. The road to Boston has been a rocky one. I know that the journey will be worth the joys that I will be rewarded with in the destination.
I think everyone in the blogosphere knows the wonderful blogging voice of the Running Chick with the Orange Hat. When I discovered her blog I was intrigued, entertained, and aligned. When I read her most recent race report, I was jealous. I was also in awe. Not only did she run a stellar race, but she trained hard to earn her BQ.
It wasn’t the same rocky road as mine. There weren’t the conversations with Grandma as she was on her deathbed during the marathon. There wasn’t the twisted ankle 4 days before race day. Or the MVA that lead to back pain and ultimately missing a 20-mile training run. There wasn’t even the black flag warning on race day.
But the Running Chick had her own unique challenges – some of which she shared with us, and others that we have not idea that she endured. We all run on the rocky road towards our goals and when it seems like were might get a flat tire, a few heaping spoonfuls of Rocky Road ice cream will patch it up nicely.

I am guessing that you all are afraid to comment. Running Chick *has* seen this. I sent it to her before I posted.
She said, “…THANK YOU for all your comments, support and encouragement. The RBF has been crucial to my running.
As far as your post is concerned, I say ‘Post it!’
It’s honest. And that’s what really matters. I don’t object to it at all.
And you were right…I did face some challenges that I didn’t blog about…that was very insightful of you.
It *is* a hard road to Boston Julie…but I KNOW that you will get there, because you WANT it. And Boston has happened every year for the past 110 years…it’s not going anywhere. So take the path that you need to take to get there healthy and happy.
And after the race, we’ll split a pint of Rocky Road.
=)

I am looking forward to splitting the pint of Rocky Road with her.

you will get there someday! Looking at the bright side it gives me more time to get there with you. LOL
Good post. The thing about the Running Chick that I noticed and have seen with other runners since I have been reading the blogs is that going into the race you have a pretty good idea if they are ready to get their goals. She had been running some good “quality” workouts at paces that indicated that not only was she ready for a BQ, she was going way below which ended up happening.
Hope the foot gets better soon!
