Confirmation that the morning commute has gone to the dogs…

Resembling cotton balls, the clouds covered the dark sky when we first came out of our morning meditation. I sipped my coffee and watched the sunlight begin to emerge from behind. Although the clouds obscured the sunrise, the backlit clouds were delightful to observe them coming out.
I rushed outside with my camera, barefoot and in my PJs. The ground was bitterly cold for my California Girl feet. But I stayed with it, vowing that next time I’d remember to grab my slippers along with the camera.
Unfortunately, I could not seem to get the camera to capture the image set before me. After I snapped this picture, I move on to other parts of the scene.

It is all too easy to find fault in ourselves. “My legs aren’t straight or level enough, back not extended, heart not open, arms not….” You get the point. We are our own worst critics.

Being able to find the joy in the moment – just as it is – is far more satisfying than gritting your teeth and forcing yourself into the textbook perfect mold. Take it from me, finding joy in imperfection is a lot more fun too.

My view on life has shifted over the past year. I won’t say that it’s better or worse. It just different. In fact, it changes from month to month, day to day, moment to moment.

Like anything else, our perspective differs depending on our vantage point. These ordinary railings, which keep the high schoolers in line as they wait to get their food, look rather extraordinary here. At least I think the do. But I would guess that none of the students at this school have ever seen them quite like this.
Perhaps one need only squat down, or otherwise create a differing perspective, to appreciate all of the many cool things we have in our world. Try it and tell me what you think.
In all of the years I have run at the Ranch, there have been very few times where there have not been model airplanes flying high over the open field neighboring the parking lots. Of course, I never seem to have a good enough camera to capture the picturesque sight of these planes in gliding overhead. On the times where I have brought my DSLR to the open space, the planes have been absent or I haven’t had enough time for the shot.
When I arrived today, I was bummed that I had just removed my DSLR from the car. On top of that, I was also late to meet a friend. As I passed, I overheard one of the guys talking about his model plane. It was the same model as the plane BoBo has been assigned to during his 4 years with the Air Force. I hurried past wishing I could have at least seen the aeromodel being described.
My friend and I enjoyed a long hike. Thanks to unrelenting sciatic pain, I felt it unwise to push my body to run. We both had the time, and Cindy was more than happy to finally hear about my trip to India.
The sun was going down by the time I returned to my car. As I approached, I could hear the model planes soaring in the sky. I thought about how cool it would have been to have Nikita (my DSLR) in my trunk now. Then, I thought about how lucky I was to have Sonia (my fabulous point-and-shoot) in my hydration vest. I snapped a few pictures and hoped that one would be cool enough to post here.

Here it is. What do you think?
