When Keeping Pace was first published, a few people asked whether I planned to write a second book about the part of my grief journey that unfolded on my yoga mat.
Although I have years of reflections recorded in my practice journals, I don’t have the same depth of material that supported my first memoir. I’ve also wondered whether that part of my story is one that needs to be told.
But the question got me thinking.
What if, instead of writing another memoir, I wrote a novel that incorporated some of what I love about my yoga practice?
And that’s how Holding Space began.
It’s a quiet story about a woman who, after years of caring for her father, sets off in search of a place where she can begin again. Along the way, she discovers that independence and belonging don’t necessarily have to be at odds.
I’m happy to share that I’ve finished writing my first novel, Holding Space: A Novel About Beginning Again. I’ve completed my revisions, and the manuscript is with an early reader for a final review. The cover design is also finished, bringing the book another step closer to publication.
There are still a few things to complete before I can share it with readers, but I’m looking forward to publishing it soon.
And I’m still a little surprised that an unexpected question about a second memoir led me here.
