We began our hike with a short detour to Tanaya Lake to load up on water. The air was still cool, as the sun hadn’t been out for too long, and the lake was lovely. With a total of 9 liters for the three of us, on top of the liter we each had drank on the drive to the trailhead, we figured we’d be good-to-go for a long while.
The day definitely heated up but we still had a fair amount of water when we passed the last water source. There was still a good deal of climbing ahead of us, and we underestimated the distance left to travel as theMAN had opted to turn off his GPS tracking for the return trek (and I left my Suunto watch at the hotel).
By the time we hit the lake again, we were beat. The lake was just as lovely as before, perhaps even more so as water is definitely a thing of beauty when you’re thirsty.
