I don’t need to open my eyes to know that the skies are overcast today. All through my body, I feel it. And I wonder, am I gloomy because the skies are in this sad state, or are they because I am?
Whichever it is, I believe it’s about time for this to burn off and reveal yet another glorious day.
I’ve been struggling to keep up with my daily photo assignment. It seems that it is easier said than done to promise that you will take and post a fresh new photo everyday. If I were to do just that, I neither of us would be happy with the quality and variety of photos presented. Sometimes there just isn’t anything new and exciting to photograph. And somedays, there just isn’t time.
That said, this photo was taken on Sunday’s long run. It”s all I’ve got. Thistle have to do for now.

From evolutionary biology and breathing mechanics to Running Man theory and persistence hunting, Chapter 28 of McDougall’s book was both the chapter that brought my reading to a screeching halt and the chapter that left me thinking long after my eyes left the pages. Somehow, I knew that I must not only get through the chapter but also attempt to understand the theories before moving on in the story. So I did.
I took this chapter of the book on in much the same way as a hunter tracks a bear — with a cautious and mindful persistence. I read the dirt, analyzed the droppings, and speculated about the underlying messages. I it kept up for days until I could feel myself becoming tired and week — and I pushed on. When I could see the end was near for my bear of a chapter, I pushed harder and finished him off. And that was when I saw things in a whole new light…
Before clicking to see today’s photo of the day, heed my warning that it is not for the weak stomach. We stumbled upon this poor animal while on the run and, true to form, I had to go back for a picture.
