I can’t believe that it’s already time to do my year in review post. From being showered by roses and realizing that it wasn’t enough, camping for the 1st time in many years, and going from two dogs to one, the year was one of growth. It sure whizzed by in a hurry.

The other day, YaYa asked me if I would be interested in my friend, Mark — IF he weren’t already married. I laughed out loud at the question. “Sure,” I said. I also pointed out that the fact that he was happily married and absolutely in love with his bride was partly what made him so attractive. Mark has other qualities that are very nicely matched to my dream man. Perhaps they are nicely matched to what YaYa wants as well.
I’m now approaching the 3 year mark since my husband’s death. It’s also been over a year since I’ve let myself look for my new charming prince. But the pickings are slim-to-none. One need only take a look around to quickly see that all the princes have already been paired up with their princesses. Why is that? Why do all the good ones seem to be already spoken for?
It would seem that my plan to fall into my new love’s arms might be flawed. It’s just not happening — even when I take a chance and leave the safety of the castle walls. Sometimes it seems like I must take drastic measures such as biting into a poison apple or pricking my finger on a spindle to find myself a man.
A few weeks ago Lil Sis invited the boys and I to join her family, along with Big Sis and family, on a trip to Disneyland in the days following Christmas. I began weighing the possibilities. I could trek down to Southern California, spend ONE day at the park, and spend the rest of the time visiting with Tom’s family.
Then my plans for Christmas changed completely and I began reworking the Disneyland option. There was a lot to be weighed. For one thing, there is the cost of the park entry. Have you checked out the price of tickets lately? Let me tell you, it’s easy to lose your amusement when considering the expense of a trip to the Disneyland Resort. Fortunately, I discovered that I would be graced with FREE entry if I went to Disneyland ON my birthday! So it was decided.
One would guess that with my birthday non-strategically placed 2 days after Christmas, it might be a day frequently forgotten. I’ve always felt lucky to receive a card, or 1-2 phone calls — and nothing more. I wondered what the day might be like when spent with family. As for a day spent in the amusement park that claims to be the “happiest place on earth,” I had my reservations. The hour long drive from DD’s house to Mickey’s was a huge contributer to my reservations.
