It’s been nearly two months since I fell on the treadmill. One might expect that would have completed my post-injury healing process. Sadly, I have not.
While the wound itself has closed and new tissue has formed, I am left with significant scaring. I am diligent in protecting my legs by staying out of the sun as much as possible . I’ve been keeping my legs covered at all times. Let me tell you, in 100+ degree weather, this is not an easy task.
In addition to sun protection, I have also tried applying fresh aloe vera gel, Vitamin E oil, Maderma cream, and the like. Nothing seemed to prevent my skin from taking on a DARK pigment with areas of hypopigmentation intermixed. My nurse practitioner friend’s opinion is that my scar is “Ugly,” and that I will need to have dermotology intervene.
Currently, I am using up the last of my Neosporin Scar Solution. This stuff worked well when I injured my hand, so I am hopeful that it will help reduce my leg scaring. Unfortunately, it is no longer on the US market, and I require three patches to cover all of the scared tissue. Each application is worn for 3-4 days; it won’t last long.
