I’m finding it difficult to return to running after so long off. It’s more of a mental thing than a physical one. My motivation is lacking and apathy is winning the battle. Today, I ran my 2nd run since the marathon (2 weeks ago).
With sprinkles falling here and there, the threat of rain helped to convince YaYa that he did not want to hike with mom. It was well past noon by the time I uprooted YaYa to head to the gym.
The treadmill felt too much like work. The people watching wasn’t very interesting either. I was only able to force myself to go for 30 minutes (3.5 miles) and promptly ended the run there. At least my strength workout was good. I also did another session with my NYC Ballet video (stretches and core strength) after returning home.
As for that 50K, I’m more than a little nervous that I won’t have what it takes to tackle the hills and cover the distance. I’ve got a lot of work to do: Not only am going to have to get some serious training in, but I’m also going to have to build my confidence level.

I’m having the same problem. I think it’s normal after a long break. You’ll get back into it soon enough and be ready for that 50k.

You are so going to rock that course. All you have to do is keep the pace. It will come. Your body will remember.

I just read your marathon report–great job! Too bad about the rain. And 3.5 miles on the treadmill sounds fine. It’s only been 2 weeks since your race, give yourself a break.

You can do it! Getting back into running post marathon is never that easy but then, all of a sudden it just happens. Trail running is so fun, too! You’ll get there.
