About seven of our old friends, employees that left for new opportunities during the layoffs, came today for a lunch reunion. It was so nice to see their friendly faces even if just for an hour. For that time, those remaining in our fragmented department forgot about the ongoing issues we now face. We took over the cafeteria with contagious laughter and joy. Our group just kept getting bigger and bigger as employees from other departments discovered the group and came over to say, “Hello.” It was a nice break in an otherwise long week – and it’s only Tuesday.
Then we returned to packing our boxes for the upcoming move upstairs that is to occur this Friday. Boxes and boxes of accumulated “stuff” is being packed throughout the floor. It’s a time to throw out the old and prepare for a new floor, and new office or cube, and a new way of doing things. Some are more resistant to moving on than others. My observation is that these are the folks with the most boxes. They are the ones who just can’t throw anything away.
I am ready to move on. I have resisted and dug in my heels for weeks now. *sigh* Could that have been the problem? It is time to give up the fight, and time to let the healing begin on all fronts. I am no longer in resistance to the change; it is inevitable. I am eager to set up my new space, arrange my photos and personal items, and settle into my new job.
My boxes, all three of them, have been packed since Monday morning. I just want to know where I will find them after the move. It is time to end the “need to know” game so that EVERYONE can move with the changing times.
