My body continues to provide me with an exercise in patience. Getting back to normal is not as quick of a process as I had hoped. Continued diligence in walking > 45 minutes per day, wearing my sacroiliac belt, and avoiding stretching the ligaments that support my pelvic girdle is needed. Last week, I returned to yoga after taking a week off from my practice. I modified my practice a ton, skipping many of the poses that would stretch out my hips. But even though I felt good while practicing, I noticed that the pains in my derriere and down my leg seemed to be intensifying once more. It could be the return of intense COLD weather (by this California Girl’s standards) but I don’t want to chance it. After my chiropractor verified that my pelvis was still in good position, he performed graston with the hope of breaking up any adhesions that might be aggravated by me performing mild-moderate activity (e.g. walking) in the cold. Since then, I have continued to struggle walking outside.
Meanwhile, I try to keep up my strength training and not let myself get down on my body for what it cannot do right now. After all, over the past year, I have been changing it’s composition to less fat/more lean muscle. I have been pushing hard in the gym on a regular basis and continuing to maintain a ketogenic lifestyle to support the changes. The transformation needs to be appreciated and never taken for granted. I have asked a lot of my body over this past year and it has responded positively for the most part. Even now, while I struggle to walk and hike, it continues to improve in other ways. Even my doctor commented on my health as she performed my annual physical examination on Monday.
Thirty days until our Spartan Sprint. I am trying to think of this as the first of the many obstacles ahead of me.
