Ronin is so laid back that one might think that he has given up his rule of the roost. Don’t be fooled. When it matters, like where this stuffed animal is concerned, he knows how to lay down the law.
GRRR!
Who’s the alpha now?

Sifting through YaYa’s photos from camp gives me a peak at camp through his eyes. It’s too bad that his camera fell into the toilet midweek; there would have been many more photos to look through. The talent show at the end of camp is supposed to be a hoot.

It feels good to put in an honest effort in preparing to meet at goal. The miles I’ve logged in this past few weeks has been good. Somehow, I’ve managed to get in back-to-back long hikes with a mid-week hike in there as well. And this weekend, I loaded up my pack with 25+ pounds of “stuff” and went out for a total of 18 miles across the 2-day time span. I ended my trek feeling strong and encouraged.
Although I haven’t prepared for the elevation, at least I have prepared for as much of the rest as possible given life-as-it-is. I know that it won’t be easy but I feel confident that the 46 hilly miles ahead are doable. It’s going to be a fabulous adventure!

The cottontails on this hike played camera shy. But this deer? She just sat there looking back at me. I guess she knew that I was too tired to work for the picture.

There are so many beautiful areas to explore — many in my own backyard. I feel so lucky to have a handful of open spaces to play in whether it be running or hiking. This picture was taken on a trail-less-traveled (by me) in my favorite open space. The trail offers a steep but rolling ascent, vast views of the valley below to the right, and pretty little wild flowers to the left. It’s wide dirt path proves to be a perfect place for a nice long hike.
So perfect, I returned a couple of days later for a repeat workout. Could it be that my old trail-less-traveled may be transforming into a trail-frequently-hiked? We’ll see.
I’ve less than 2 weeks ’till my escape into the backcountry. We’re heading out on the Rae Lakes Loop in King’s Canyon. If you’ve backpacked out there, please share a bit about your experience. I’d love to hear all about it.
