Today I was lucky enough to spend some time with YaYa in Monterey. He accompanied me to the race expo to get my bib to run in the Big Sur Half Marathon on Sunday. He loves coming to race expos with me. He’s all about the samples, you know.
gimmie that girl
Gimmie that girl with the hair in a mess
sleepy little smile with her head on my chest,
thats the you that i like best,
gimmie that girl.
Gimmie that girl lovin up on me,
old t-shirt and a pair of jeans,
thats the you i wanna see,
gimmie that girl.
The lyrics to this song always make me smile. If you are like “that girl” who’s man loves her most when she’s not trying to perfectly do her hair and make up, you know that this is a special thing.
Of course he also loves you when you’re all fancied up too. But it’s nice not to always be worried if the rain has undone the 45 minutes of blowdrying and flat ironing your hair. I love being able to be just me — however that is for that day.
If I don’t want to put on make up or mess with my hair, it’s okay. Unlike the days when the last thing I wanted was a man’s attention, being able to walk out the door with a new level of confidence in just being is very cool. It’s not that I’m all feeling my-farts-dont’-stink; it’s more of a belief that beauty is more on the inside than out.
midday visitor
I love getting surprise visitors at the office. Nothing makes the day more pleasant. Well, except maybe permission to cut the day short — but that never seems to happen anymore.
Today’s little visitor gave me the gift of a few smiles and hearty high-five. In return, I handed down a stuffed animal which BoBo had when he was just a wee lad. He called him “noceros.” She loved everything about him except his name. He’s now called “rhino.”
He fit nicely into her little jack-o-lantern toy. I think he’ll be much happier in his new home. Happier than sitting on my shelf beside the photos of boys.

Moon fly by
For several days now, I’ve been chasing the moon so-to-speak. I drive through neighborhoods trying to find a safe vantage point from which to click, click, click away. And still, all my attempts to capture that incredible orangey glow of the moon have been unsuccessful.
However…I was able to capture this shot of a plane flying by the moon.
It’s pretty cool if do say so myself.
