I’ve been a little worker bee: processing my cases, training a couple of co-workers, and familiarized myself with Company G’s way. In addition, I’ve done my best to look for the positive side of things.
Just when I thought I’d gone through the worst, decisions come flowing down the pike and into my little pool of fought-for-contentment. Translation: Management shit in my toilet and, for good measure, smeared a bit on the seat and walls of my cubicle.
If what they’d decided made any sense at all I might not be so mad. Unfortunately, it makes no sense whatsoever. Now, not only do I need to quickly process the backlog of 70+ cases but I will also be required to go back through 6 months worth of cases to reassess each one in a manner that neither myself nor my old boss find in agreement with the regulations. Oh, but a note to file should explain it all. Right?
I cannot begin to express how frustrating it is to work in an environment where words and action do not measure up.
- Open-door policies are displayed with doors that are ALWAYS CLOSED.
- Management talks the talk of streamlined processes and continuous improvement while in essence the processes are cumbersome and filled with redundancy. And don’t you dare offer up any ideas for improving it as this is the ONLY WAY it will be done.
- Team meetings are basically meetings to obtain stats on each person attending. Beyond that, it is a meeting where the many disgruntled employees learn to put a sock in it.
- There is no “teamwork” at all. It is a dictatorship of senior management making decisions based on misinformation. Let’s be clear, they don’t want the information. They just want the job done — their way.
- Oh, and that way might be different tomorrow.
The masses are unhappy and exhausted. They are all looking for a way out. And, as I understand it, even though those already leaving are verbalizing the issues in their exit interviews, nothing is being done to change it.
So…I too am looking for the door.

Thursday Update: I just received a spreadsheet showing the cases I now need to reassess. N = 1,321 As you might imagine, I’m overjoyed. NOT!

Ugh. That sounds like no fun at all. At least you have a job while you’re looking for a new one – just think of it as a place holder.

Well you’ll be a busy bee… Guess pushing delete wouldn’t work, eh?

I would inclined to address my exit letter to the CEO of the company. I would put it in snail mail and mark the envelope ‘personal and confidential’ and maybe sprinkle a little perfume on it.
Best of luck with your job search – I hope you find a new one soon.
