It’s a short flight from Northern to Southern California. We peer out the window on the hills below us. This trip we are on was not the trip we’d planned. Although it was a completely different sort of vacation, we were hopeful that it would be a good one nonetheless.
I case you didn’t figure it out, our backpacking trip to Clouds Rest didn’t happen. It seems that all of the rain and snow we had back in the winter had not yet melted away by the beginning of July. The snow that had melted flooded the trails below. The ranger’s words were, “Umm…you can’t even get to that trail right now.”
PLAN B:
So we decided to fly to Encinitas, California to study with Tim Miller (aka “Timji”) at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in the morning and be beach bums for the rest of the time.
I was fortunate enough to study with Timji in the early years of my yoga journey as was quite taken with his teaching style and approach. Of course he was just as I had remembered him, and his students were all amazing yoga practitioners. TheMAN and I enjoyed our drippy practice thanks to the heat and humidity of San Diego and the wonderful assists Timji and his teacher assistants kindly offered us.
The rest of the time, we played around the coastal playground: hiking to the beach at Torrey Pines, or just going to hang out in La Jolla area. We quickly settled in to that vacation-mode mentality and just enjoyed being together.
So, once again, we didn’t get to hike Clouds Rest. Fortunately, we were able to get plenty of much needed rest and relaxation. As for Clouds Rest, we’ll try again. Perhaps, the third time will be the one.
