TheMAN and I had a few hours to kill — sacrificing only a few hours of sleep — while in the desert. We made our way to Joshua Tree for a look at the landscape.
While we were out and about, we caught a glimpse of this guy returning from an overnight trek in the backcountry. It was about 8 AM and nearing 100 degrees already. The heat didn’t seem to be a problem. Maybe it was the result of being able to get away from the hustle and bustle of life but this guy was really laid back. So much so, that I’ve already looked up the requirements for getting a backcountry permit in Joshua Tree.
Of course, first things 1st: Clouds Rest is already permitted for early July. I can’t wait.

That is where Carlos and I went…aiming for Juniper Valley but Carlos cheated me with his volunteer obligation which made us have to come back early….ugh!!!!!!! So close. Have fun or I am sure you did!!

I remember that you weren’t even sure that you’d be able to go at all, Linda. The same was true for us. We had a very FULL schedule with the wedding and all. We were lucky to go at all.

My “life lesson” was all about letting go of seeing a Joshua Tree and appreciating all the other beauty. We only had enough time to come in from the southern entrance and explore for a little while. Had I done my homework I would’ve known to come in from the north, slightly longer drive but at higher ground where the beautiful tree thrives. We’ll be back to sleep under the stars and Joshua Trees. Xo

I’m sorry that you were disappointed. We tried and, in the process, were able to take in a tremendous amount of beauty. With not going to sleep until nearly 2 AM, being able to get up at 5:20 AM to see what we did is quite a feat in and of itself.

Nor can I !!

Soon, dear. Very soon.
