I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned here that BoBo has taken up boxing for sport. If you know him, it makes perfect sense. From birth — actually BEFORE birth — this guy has been a fighter. Strong willed, stubborn, and thirsty for high-energy activities.
His participation in the sport actually started during his enlistment. So, while he was out of arms reach, I’d have to wait by the phone to hear how his events went. Of course his calls always came when he was so high on the adrenaline rush that I could hardly understand him. And to be perfectly honest, I didn’t much care if he won or lost the fight. All I cared about was if he was okay at the end of it.
Well, this past week, BoBo took a hit and went down for the count. Yes, my boy was knocked out during sparring practice with one of the heavier boxers. Although he seemed okay afterwards, the story he told had the potential to be one of serious consequence.
$100 later, the emergency room doctor confirmed what I already knew: he has sustained a concussion. If you are wondering if BoBo plans to quit the sport, the answer is no. He said, “It looks like I need to work on my defense.”
