At the beginning and ending of my yoga practice, my hands find their way to Anjali Mudra (pronounced UHN-juh-lee muhd-RAAH). Here, with the palms of my hand brought together in front of the heart, I find grace and gratitude.
In Sanskrit, “mudra” means sign or seal. This sacred hand gesture brings about a certain inner state and, from my viewpoint, has symbolic meaning across many spiritual customs. Anjali comes from “anj” which, in Sanskrit, means “to honor or celebrate”.
Today, being the anniversary of 9/11, I honor those who have given their lives (either willingly or by tragedy and those who fight for freedom of our country. With this, I also pray for world peace.
