I have a theory about trees:
On one hand, it’s easy to get lost in the maze of trees. Then again, isn’t that why you enter in the first place?
To get lost…
so you can find yourself.
Here, in the woods (of a little island in Washington), I found calm. Actually, it’s quite easy to do. You should give it a try. Trees: optional
Wa-la! It was just like magic. I opened my eyes and found I was on vacation. Oh wait. I AM on vacation!
While the kids were playing nearby, I retreated to a tree house and practiced (or tried to) one of two sun salutation sequences which I tried to commit to memory in honor of the coming of summer. I failed miserably in remembering the sequence in its entirety, but that didn’t seem to matter to me or the sun.
The sun seemed to know how grateful I am for its presence. The longest days of summer are even longer here. So long, in fact, that I retired before the sun did and woke long after it had come up. It’s wonderful.
