The Boston Marathon is not for the nonchalant. It is for the persistent endurance athlete who won’t take no for an answer.
- She will run as many marathons as she needs to in order to meet her goal.
- If her qualifying time does not post, she will pester the heck out of the race officials at her qualifying marathon until it does.
- And when the Boston Athletic Association’s registration site fails repeatedly in accepting her application, she will not only persist in repeatedly trying but will rally the help of another to also try to get through to the next page in the process.
Yes, she will not give up.
…until her registration entry has been received.
It took 1 hour and 15 minutes of trying before it finally worked. My confirmation email states that it could take about 4-5 weeks for my acceptance to be verified, depending on how quickly they receive the official results from my qualifying marathon.
The way this has been playing out, I think I will ask for your prayers, good karma, etc. now. Who knew that qualifying was just the beginning?

Another congrats, Jules! I wasn’t on-line this morning, and got an email from another friend who was having problems. She also finally got in (before I had a chance to email her back with advice. Of course, I wouldn’t have had any except to “keep trying”). Later, I heard of the server problems and how the BAA site was overwhelmed. Good for you on your persistence! Word has it that it may sell out today!
When I qualified, a friend told me that she felt it was one of the few things that lived up to the hype. For me, it was (and is) true. I hope you find it the same! Congrats again!!

It was a crazy and stressful way to start out the day. So when I got into my car to head off to work and it didn’t start, it just seemed like a “whatever” moment.

Once they confirm your registration entry, they’ll hold your spot until they get the official results from Portland. So no worries now!

OMG, you qualified for Boston! I’m so happy for you. You’ve been aiming for that since I met you at Grandma’s back in 2006. I didn’t realize and it took some drilling to figure out which marathon you qualified at. I really need to read blogs more. How nice that we ran a marathon on the same day. Congratulations!
