Well, I had 21.5 miles of plodding to ponder the notion of wearing Vibrams to run my next marathon (instead of conventional running shoes). A lot of varied thoughts can run through one’s head in the time it takes to cover mileage such as this. LOTS of thoughts.
Of course, I’d donned my newest pair for the run, sleek and sexy as they are. “Sexy” would not be the chosen word for my feet after completing such a run. Having only run 4 miles in the footwear, you could say that they weren’t exactly broken in. My left foot emerged with only two tiny blisters on the toe pads. The right foot was not as lucky. This foot had a nice size blister filled with blood-tinged fluid just below the ball of my foot. And although I repeatedly stubbed the great toe on the same foot as fatigue set in, it was the wee toe that sustained the damage. My foot muscles are fine though.
In my post-run pondering, I considered that today’s blisters were due to having not properly broken in these foot accessories before taking them out for a 3+ hour run. So instead of writing this run off as a Vibram failure, I’m going to give them another go during next week’s (shorter) 14-16 mile training run.
Stay tuned…

I am amazed that you are running that far in the Vibrams to begin with. Well done!! I will have a pair of these next year.
