On Friday, after another farewell luncheon, we were giving permission to leave early. I didn’t waste anytime wrapping things up at the office but unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time get my weekend long run in — which is too bad because it just isn’t happening today. Nonetheless, I did have time for a shorter trail run. I was off to the ranch in a hurry.
Look behind me. Doesn’t that look glorious? I am always awestruck by the beauty of this place. Every time I come here to run, I feel so blessed. I love it!
Minutes after arriving at the park, I did a quicko-chango and set my ponytail a-swinging. I ran to the soundtrack for We Are Marshall. The instrumental arrangement allows one to take in the scenery and let the mind wander at will. As I ran up the hill in switchback fashion, I took note of the many blessings in my life.
After my run, I hung out with at the field with the other football parents — as I have done every day this week — even though I have decided to have YaYa skip this year to insure his humerus heals completely. At the end of the day, it is nice to unwind and chit-chat a while with the others.
On Saturday, we drove to the city to see my cousin Jake take the stage at a festival celebrating Filipino culture. My cousin was thrilled to hear us hootin’ and hollering for him as each song finished. We all hung out afterwards, eating delicious food, seeing the sights, and allowing Jake to educate us all on the side of the family that still resides in Guam.
It’s now Sunday. I’ve been unable to get myself motivated or freed up to get my long run accomplished. Although I have finally changed out of my church going clothes, and into my running clothes, although it appears that I am destined to make this day a day of rest.
I have no complaints. It’s been a great weekend. And today was absolutely fabulous.
In church, Father’s homily spoke right to me in much the same way as it did when I first decided that this church was exactly what I was looking for. The message was simply about being thankful for all of God’s blessings. Once again, I was reminded to look not on the hardship of these past years but on the many blessings that have resulted from, or in spite of it all.
Following church, we meandered over to the coffee shop to enjoy the slow down. YaYa met the sweetest little australian shepherd and read the comics while I made a shopping list and made small talk with anyone and everyone who would listen. Then, somehow, we ended up at the movie theaters where we watched Aliens in the Attic, ate popcorn, and got a reprieve from the heat. It was nice.
On this day, or this weekend rather, I was reminded to give thanks for all that I have. I am thankful for A LOT and YOU, my friends, are on my list.
