From meatloaf to baseball, it was hard to fit in a run Tuesday. I barely made it to the YMCA on time to run 5 miles on the “mill.” Even though I spun on the cycle on Monday, my Tuesday run is supposed to be a recovery run. By now, however, 12 miles is nothing that needs a special recovery run to follow after the cross-training. I decided on some Yasso 800s.
I warmed up gently at 6.5 mph. I kept the pace for the full mile with an incline of 1.5% I haven’t been on the mill in a while. It felt awkward, but not hard…at least until my first 800. I did a total of four 800 repeats at 7.8 mph (7:41 min/mi) with rest periods of 400 at 6.0 mph.
It went fairly well. I DID keep the workout going but, at a few points in the workout, I wanted to abandon it for just straight running. I kept reminding myself to focus. I kept thinking that if I was going to BQ at Grandma’s Marathon, that I would suffer some pain along the way. I kept going. Overall my repeats were from 3:47-3:49. It wasn’t a lot of repeats, but the rest was also not the usual 3:50. I take pride in knowing that I didn’t let the treadmill defeat me.
